AI, Art and the Human Eye
How we really use Artificial Intelligence at Any Image
Independent filmmakers like Jim Jarmusch like to say that nothing is truly original, we all
borrow, remix and transform. That has always been true for image-making as well. Cameras, lenses, Photoshop, even the smartphone in your pocket: they are all tools that extend the human eye and imagination. Now there is a new tool on the table: Artificial Intelligence.
Our creative team
We are often asked if we use AI to create our images. The honest answer is: yes, we do for
some of our images, in the same way we use a camera or editing software. AI helps us
explore ideas, generate variations, and sometimes fill in missing details. But it does not
decide what becomes an Any Image artwork. People still do that. An experienced human
being of our creative team selects, refines and approves every image that enters our
collections.
In perspective
History helps to put this moment in perspective. When photography appeared in the 19th
century, many feared it would kill painting. It did the opposite: it pushed artists toward new
movements and new ways of seeing; according to Professor Ahmed Elgammal in his blog at the UNESCO courier. AI feels like a similar turning point. Instead of a glass lens, it uses
a “lens” made of data, trained on billions of human-made images. It does not capture reality directly; it reinterprets it.

That is also why AI will not replace creativity on its own. It can combine, remix and
sometimes hallucinate, but it does not know which image tells the right story for a hotel
lobby, a living room or an online campaign. It does not feel colour, mood or brand. The value lies in taste, in context, in the quiet decision to say “this one fits, that one doesn’t.”
Our commitment
Will humans always stay this firmly in control? We would be lying if we claimed to know.
What we do know is this: as the line between AI-generated and non-AI art becomes harder
to see, intention matters more than ever. Our commitment is simple: use AI as a tool, never
as a shortcut, and keep the soul of the work – the choices, the sensibility, the responsibility – firmly human.
